Why do the Majority of Jobs Require CPR and First Aid Training?

CPR and First Aid training courses are not just essential for nurses and personal support workers. Most industries want personnel and employees with First Aid certificates since knowing how to respond in an emergency situation is beneficial, no matter the job scenario. Furthermore, having a CPR certificate in your name will increase your appeal to employers across a wide range of industries and jobs. In fact, in many circumstances, this is a condition for work.

We cannot prevent accidents, illnesses, or injuries from occurring, whether we work in an office or on a physical, hands-on job in the trades. Nowadays, employers are concerned with creating a safe working environment, and therefore they frequently hire someone with CPR and First Aid certifications without giving it much attention.

What are the Occupations that Demand CPR and First Aid Training?

The following are some vocations and careers that require CPR and FIRST AID Certification:

  • Firefighters
  • Coaches and personal trainers
  • Electricians

Why do the Majority of Jobs Require CPR and First Aid Training?

Making a Lifesaving Decision – Choose the Right CPR Class

How Do I Decide Which CPR Class to Sign Up For?

Are you confused about which CPR course to sign up for? Contacting the company that demands the certification and asking them what course you need is the simplest way to decide which first aid and CPR training are best for you. BITTS has set up this blog to help our students respond to the most typical question we receive and make the disparities easier to understand.

Requirements for Schools/Colleges and Universities

Basic Life Support [BLS], – (previously known as CPR-HCP,)- may only be required once a year for students entering medical or healthcare professions. However, some nursing schools require students to complete Standard First Aid CPR Level BLS, which is valid for three years and must be renewed every three years. For nursing students, BITTS Certifications provides low-cost group discounts; for more information on group training, please see the link: https://bitts.ca/redcross/group-training-form/

Facilities for childcare or recreation require First Aid knowledge encompassing Standard First Aid and CPR Level C, which includes adult, child, and infant abilities, while Emergency First Aid and CPR are typically needed for children and infants. The program will be determined by organizational policy. BITTS Often offers corporate discounts if your organization wishes to offer First Aid instruction to your personnel.

Occupational Entry Requirements

For guidance with workplace regulatory requirements, it is imperative to get in touch with the organization’s body that oversees workplace health and safety – (in Ontario, this would be the WSIB). The Standard First Aid CPR/AED Level C blended course is a string starting part if you’re unclear about what kind of workplace education you need.

The level of training required at a workplace is determined by the number of people working per shift:

  • At least one person must be qualified in Emergency First Aid in businesses with five or fewer employees on any given shift. Institutions around the province provide this 8-hour training.
  • In each corporate world with six or more people working on each shift, at least one person must have a Standard First Aid CPR certificate.

For workplaces with five or fewer people working on any one shift, at least one must have an Emergency First Aid certificate. This program is 8 hours long and is offered by organizations across the province.

For workplaces with six or more people working on any shift, at least one must have a Standard First Aid CPR certificate.

If your work is under government authority, such as transportation (airlines, trucking, shipping) or other entities such as the RCMP or Canadian Border Services, you are not subject to Work Safe BC’s jurisdiction and will require Standard First Aid or Emergency First Aid. Both the RCMP and the Border Services recommend the 16-hour Standard First Aid course.

If you are still unsure about the best CPR course for you and/or your business, do not hesitate to contact us through email or phone. BITTS would be pleased to help.

BITTS Certifications – First Aid and CPR Blended Recertification

Recertification confirms that one’s competency has been upheld after initial training and offers a second certification for a time determined by the course. This must be completed before the first certification period expires.

Running a recertification course is different from running a beginner’s course. Participants in a recertification course seek to maintain the abilities and knowledge they acquired during their initial training. Since they have been in a First Aid classroom and have completed training, they are familiar with the course material and may have utilized their First Aid abilities in a genuine emergency. Because of this, they have different learning demands than initial trainees, and their course is taught in a different way (in terms of teaching hours and learning activities). Except for the teaching hours required for each course, all standards for recertification courses remain the same.

How can I get certified or recertified?

  • Contact an authorized First Aid provider and sign up for the blended course. You can obtain an interim certificate for the knowledge acquisition element of the certification after completing the online course. The online portion of the course must be completed prior to the classroom portion.
  • To receive full re-certification or certification, an instructor needs to examine your practical abilities to confirm that the requisite first aid competencies have been proven.

Can I continue to practice FIRST AID/CPR even though my certificate has expired?

With an expired certificate, you can no longer practice First Aid/CPR.

How frequently should the training be revised?

Most First Aid certifications are only valid for three years at most. Training organizations are allowed to set higher standards and grant certifications with a two-year validity period.

To keep your certification valid before it expires, you must go through the training once more.

Before your original certificate expires, you can renew your standard First Aid certification once by finishing a one-day course with the original provider. The term “renewal” will appear on the new certificate.

If you’ve previously had your standard First Aid certificate renewed, you’ll need to obtain a new one from an authorized institution when your current certificate expires.

Student Success Story with BITTS

My Story

I am Ramanpreet Kaur.  Since my high school, I have always been passionate about traveling and experiencing new cultures. I chose to continue my higher studies abroad after receiving my degree in computer science. Most of my family members didn’t agree with my brave decision, still, after receiving my diploma, I traveled to Canada in Jan 2021, in British Columbia with a program related to my studies. It took a lot of sacrifices, efforts, and tears to complete that journey, yet I was determined to follow it. Despite the difficulties, I knew there was no other way than get going to seek the rights, and independence I had craved for. Studying in Canada gave me the chance to pursue my academic interests added with the freedom to think and act the way I like.

How BITTS Made My Life Easier?

When I started my studies, I found out that the college of my first choice and course did not prove to be as good as I thought and I decided to transfer my college in Ontario since all my friends were in Ontario.  One of my relatives suggested me to apply for a different college in Ontario as well. It wasn’t great timing though, as all intakes were full. Luckily, someone suggested me to apply at BITTS International Career College.

BITTS’s staff understood my situation and suggested me an ‘Office Administration’ course for May 2021 intake. At that time, I was waiting for my previous college’s tuition refund, but my previous college was taking a lot of time in refunding my fees and this was definitely a stressful time for me.

BITTS enrolled me with a small enrolment fee and set up an installment plan to pay my tuition fees. I started studying right after this and later BITTS helped me finding a good part-time job while I was studying.

Once I Was Done

After my studies, BITTS also helped me to get a full-time job as an office administrator that was related to my studies. I was on my way!

Thank you very much BITTS. You helped whereas the other schools did not, and assisted me in starting off my career in Canada by moving fast towards the right direction.

What makes students to choose BITTS International Career College?

BITTS Certifications-Levels of CPR

CPR is classified into three levels: A, C, and BLS. Because the public does not receive the same training as those in the medical field, these levels are tailored to a specific audience.

A person could learn how to conduct CPR properly and learn the most crucial details through CPR training. In the workplace or in school, CPR instruction may be mandated. At BITTS Certifications, we work hard to give our students the knowledge they require to meet their needs.

Before registering, students should understand the different levels of CPR. Please review the details below regarding CPR levels A, C, and BLS.

CPR Level A

Lay rescuers who are interested in learning about the fundamentals of CPR instruction are frequently advised to take CPR Level A. Adult CPR and choking protocols are included in this CPR level, along with the significance of prompt defibrillation. The CPR level A course will only take 4 hours of your time, but it covers incredibly important and vital information regarding handling emergencies. The CPR Level A is provided through Canadian Red Cross courses at BITTS Certifications.

See the CPR/AED course for further details on the CPR Level A criteria.

Instructions for using an automated defibrillator on children are included in CPR Level B. It does not cover adult treatment techniques, making it an addition to rather than a replacement for the CPR Level A course. This course was available through Red Cross as a separate course but is now part of Level C.

CPR Level C

CPR Level C includes instruction in two-rescuer CPR as well as all other facets of CPR theory and practice for adults, kids, and newborns. It is seen as an inclusive strategy. Police, firefighters, and lifeguards who might need extensive training for their job requirements are frequently advised to complete CPR Level C.

CPR Level C includes the following courses:

  1. Standard First Aid and CPR Level C
  2.  CPR/ AED level C
  3. Emergency First Aid and CPR Level C
  4. CPR Level BLS

If you want to book an appointment for any of the above-mentioned courses, Please register here https://bitts.ca/red-cross-certification-registration/.

BLS Level training is intended for first responders and healthcare professionals who need more advanced life support skills. The course trains Health Care Providers to respond to medical emergencies (e.g., doctors, nurses, paramedics, and allied healthcare professionals).

CPR BLS includes the following courses:

BLS Standard First Aid and CPR – Valid for 3 years

Basic Life Support (BLS) Course – 1-year validity

When looking for a CPR, BLS, or First Aid class, a person should look for a reputable provider. BITTS Certifications is an authorized Red Cross Partner and has been offering CPR classes in a variety of locations throughout Ontario. Please contact us for more information.
